Hello and welcome to Tadasana.Yoga. Over the 20+ years that I have studied and taught yoga, I’ve witnessed first-hand the dramatic impact this practice has on people’s lives. What I’ve always wanted to understand is why: why is yoga so powerful? Why do people find that it transforms their bodies and minds in a way that no other fitness modality does? And if it truly is so amazing, then what can I do to make it more accessible to each and every human?
This pursuit led to the concept of “Yoga for”.
“Yoga for” asks first: “What is yoga for?” How does it work? What does the science and data tell us about the impact of these moves and mental states on our bodies? Dig into our blog for posts on the many topics that we’ve explored here. We know that yoga trains bodies in strength, flexibility, and balance. We know that the slow, deliberate approach of yoga is the most optimal way to train. We also know that training the body is the same thing as training the mind; so when you change one, you change the other. This combination results in an overall transformation that is rarely found outside of the yoga studio.
“Yoga for” then asks: “Who is yoga for?” Who does it serve? Yoga has a millenia-long history that has branched into an almost endless variety of styles and surroundings, from deeply spiritual, to strip-mall sterile. Despite this variety of offerings, the most recent surveys indicate that yoga is practiced by less than 15% of the US adult population and that only 30% of people practicing yoga are men. Even though the scientific and medical community increasingly recommend yoga for nearly everyone, at every stage of life.
So – who is yoga for? Because yoga offers balance, strength, and flexibility, and because every human body needs these three things, yoga is for everyone.
Tadasana.Yoga studio is based in a community filled with people who love their outdoor pursuits, from skiing to snowshoeing, hiking to biking and everything in between. What the science shows us is that yoga (flexbility, balance, and strength) is necessary for each one of these pursuits.
Here at Tadasana.Yoga, we practice “Yoga for…” because yoga is for everyone and makes every thing you want to do easier, better, and last longer.
